Counsellors are qualified to evaluate and treat mental health concerns and diagnoses. They also hold a Masters Degree from an accredited university and are usually licensed by a regulatory body. In BC, the most common counselling designation is the RCC (Registered Clinical Counsellor) which is provided by the BCACC (British Columbian Association of Clinical Counsellors).
Psychologists hold a Doctorate Degree, and they evaluate and treat mental health concerns. They can also provide assessments and diagnose mental disorders.
Lastly, Psychiatrists are medical doctors. In addition to evaluating and treating mental health concerns and diagnoses, they can also prescribe medication.
I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor certified through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.

Most insurance companies cover Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), which I am designated with through British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). Additionally, I am a Professional Member of the Canadian Certified Psychotherapy Association possessing a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) designation.
It is still important to double check this with your insurance provider as you will want to determine the maximum allowed amount for counselling expense reimbursement, the deductible, and/or the percentage of coverage for each visit.
I am a provider to most insurers including Blue Cross, Blue Cross Medavie, Sunlife, Manulife, FNHA, Desjardins, ICBC and several others.

Clients are expected to cancel their appointments at least 24-hours in advance for full reimbursement. This can be done online or via email.
Less than 24-hours notice will result in a 50% cancellation fee.Missed appointments will result in a full charge. An appointment will be considered missed if the client has "no-showed" 20 minutes after the scheduled start time.

Many of us seek counselling for more than one reason. The number of sessions greatly depends on each individual or couple. It is important to determine that a counsellor is the right fit for the client. It is common for people to come more often, initially, and then lessen the frequency as time he right fit for the client. Putting a number on the amount of sessions needed is difficult, but effective therapy often takes 5-12 sessions, but can be longer.
